Where coffee beans do came from?
Coffee beans were first discovered in the early 11th century later spread in the whole world till the 19th century. The first plant was called Ethiopia. These were cherry like fruits which were boiled and thought to have medicinal properties.
The story of the discovery of these coffee beans goes on when some of the goats of kaldi eat these red cherries. He noticed that after eating these red cherry like beans the goats had some kind of energy which didn’t let them sleep in night.
Coffee bean types
There are many types of coffee beans more than 100 but some of the most common are mentioned below:
- Coffee Robusta
Coffee Robusta is a type of coffee beans. These beans have a higher level of acidity which gives it a winey taste. Robusta has a stronger and harsher taste not like other coffee beans. The taste is a bit like peanut moreover it has a grain like overtone.
- Arabic coffee
It is also a type of coffee grown commercially. It has less caffeine as compared to coffee Robusta the plant used to grow these coffee beans produce less caffeine.
- Wild coffee
This is the common name of “Coffee racemosa Lour” which is a coffee type native to Ethiopia. These are mostly grown in wild.
- Baron Goto red
This is a type of coffee mainly grown in Hawaii.
Coffee bean plant

Methods to refine coffee
Coffee tree starts its life-cycle as a seed and after 4 to 8 weeks it develops into a plant-let. At this stage seedling needs be held with care making sure the soil remains wet and does not appeal too much sunlight. After 9 to 18 months the coffee plant will grow to about 12 inches high.
It is a further 3 years before the tree bears fruit (cherries) and additional 6 years before it is fully mature and making fruit entirely. At this stage the trees are ready for picking. This is done by hand by the residents and usually all hands are on deck.
An upright coffee picker can pick the equal of 50 to 60 pounds of coffee in a day. Lifespan for a coffee tree is 20 to 25 years, yielding around 2000 beans each year.
Once the cherries have been picked they are ready for categorization. This can be done in various ways depending on the result of the required coffee taste.
The major way is for ‘Aged coffee’ only, involves keeping the green bean in a well-ventilated depository for 1-7 years. This gives the beans a less acidic flavor and a syrupy richness.
Dry Treating involves drying the cherries below the scorching sun, then removing the pulp, parchment and dry skin.
It can take up to two weeks and the beans must be uninterruptedly raked to prevent mildew. Wet Processing this way involves putting the cherries in liquid; the ones which float are removed as faulty. The cherries are then hard-pressed by a machine which only lets the seed and some pulp to pass through the holes.
The left over pulp is detached leaving the beans which are then left to dry, leaving about 10 – 12 percent moisture content.
Machines are used to get rid of the parchment layer from the wet processed coffee beans.
The dry method involves taking out the entire dried husk of the dried cherries
A refining machine is used to get rid of any silver skin that is left on after the hulling process Cleaning, Sorting and Classifying. Before the beans are distributed they are sorted again by sizes and weight, and then they are tested again for color flaws or other flaws. Any beans with the minor fault will be removed.
7. Distributing the Coffee
The beans are now referred to as Green beans and are ready for exporting. There is approximately seven million tons of green coffee produced worldwide each year.
8. Tasting the Coffee
At every stage of coffee production the coffee is repeatedly tested for quality and taste. This procedure is referred to as cupping and takes place in a room specifically intended for this process.
A knowledgeable person now tastes hundreds of samples of coffee a day and still tastes the subtle changes between them.
9. Roasting the Coffee
It is normally done in the importing country because newly roasted beans must reach the consumer as fast as possible. The procedure of roasting the coffee beans involves roasting them at 550 degrees. The beans are kept moving throughout the whole procedure to stop them from burning.
When they reach a high temperature of about 400 degrees they begin to turn chocolate color and the coffee or oil that is locked inside the bean starts to appear.
This procedure is what produces the tastes and aroma of the coffee. Once the beans are detached from the roaster they are instantly cooled with by air or water.

Coffee drinkers are thought to have a less chance of prostate cancer as the caffeine in the coffee fights the disease which is the main reason of this cancer.

Over consumption of coffee beans can be toxic to heath as it contains acidic content. Coffee can kill you if you drink more than 20 liters a day. Moreover, it can cause sleeping problems. It is very dangerous for pregnant women even a cup of coffee during pregnancy is harmful for the baby.
